The Forest of Dean

Welcome to one of England's few remaining ancient forests, covering over 110 square kilometres of woodland. The Forest of Dean lies between the rivers Wye and Severn, in the western part of Gloucestershire, and on the borders of Wales and Herefordshire.

The Forest is one of the most distinctive areas of Britain, having a seductive charm and character that is uniquely its own.

The stunning landscapes and spectacular scenery have inspired artists, craftspeople, inventors, poets and playwrights, as well as the many visitors who return year after year.

The Chair at Beenchenhurst

Beechenhurst is now the ideal base for a family day out with walking trails, cafe facilities and a play area. Beechenhurst is the starting point for the famous Sculpture Trail, the walk features pieces by famous artists set in beautiful woodland surroundings.

Mallards Pike

Mallards Pike is a Forestry Commission site with lakeside walks, a running trail and links to the cycle trail. The lakeside path has easy access and has benches dotted alongside it - good vantage points for watching ducks and other wildlife. Parking for 70 cars. Suitable for wheel chairs. A beautiful woodland walk.

Clearwell Caves

Clearwell Caves represent a unique survival of an ancient Forest of Dean tradition. Nine impressive caverns open to the public. The Caves are an important but secret part of the Forest of Dean's history and environment. Educational and fun, a great underground experience for all the family.

Go Ape!

Go Ape is an award-winning high wire forest adventure course of rope bridges, tarzan swings and zip slides up to 40 feet up in the trees. Appealing to a wide age range, customers are fitted with a climbing harness, given instructions, and then trek from tree to tree high above the forest floor.

Taurus Crafts

New Fancy View

New Fancy View - Formerly the site of the New Fancy coal mine. The old spoil heap now provides spectacular views across the Forest. It is an ideal place to watch birds of prey soaring above the woodland. Parking for 40 cars. Short climb to a viewpoint over the forest.

Bike Hire
